THE MYTHICAL WOODLAND

KHUSHI VERMA

//Khushi is based in New Delhi, India. She was enamoured with photography through her father´s own photographic practice and started photographing herself during her undergraduate studies, using it to express her thoughts, ideas and creativity. We present her series about dwelling in a mythical forest.

“TREES ARE THE EARTH´S ENDLESS EFFORT TO SPEAK TO THE LISTENING HEAVEN.”

Rabindranath Tagore

What draws you to the arts?

“For me art is fluid, since my childhood I have been somewhere or the other associated with different art forms, be it performing arts or visual arts.

What do you like most about this conceptual photo series?

“I really like how I tried to convert what my mind had thought into reality, through the medium of photography.”

We are letting Khushi tell you about this series in her own poetic way:

I'm not a myth, I'm a mythical being that resides here in the not so
mythical woods.
From keeping it all under my veil,
to stretching down to the field.
From letting the breeze read,
to letting the sky dream,
I reached my extreme, the only path where I reign supreme.

“The idea behind this series was to portray the sufferings of forest dwellers and how it’s about time to conserve the nature and our planet,” Khushi explains. “My work is generally about being minimal with the post processing process. For this series I tried soft edits for my pictures so that it conveys the delicate details about the theme.”
