SEBASTIAN FRÖHLICH
//Sebastian is a trained filmmaker from Vienna, Austria, with a love and passion for photography. He has worked on both national and international film and photography projects. After several years of professional experience in food photography and graphic design, the time has come for him to give more space to his own ideas and creativity. He cannot quite get away from food though…
Sebastian is just about to finish his studies in digital design with a focus on photography at the University of Applied Sciences St. Pölten. Previously, he studied film in Vienna and since 2022 he has been showing his finely arranged works in galleries and digital exhibitions.
“Beauty is the harmony of function and form.”
Alvar Aalto
What draws you to the arts?
“With art I’m able to express my own personality and show it to others. There are many problems in our society that can be improved. With my art I want to give an input to start the change.”
What do you like best about this photographic project?
“I presented the “Inside & Outside” image series in two galleries in such a way that only the “Outside” images (high key) were hung and the “Inside” images (low key) could be experienced on viewers´ own smartphones using augmented reality . Thus the experience became visual poetry and viewers could immerse themselves in a 3D world with the help of the Artivive app. The exhibited image could be scanned and the app played a transition video I made from “outside” to “inside”, so to speak, and orientated itself on the contours of the exhibited image. The video was tracked live on the displayed image, even if the viewer moved forward or backward.”
From the beauty of the staging to the naked loneliness: Sometimes it is necessary to illuminate the inside as well, to look at it and to question the beauty of the outside. It is interesting to realize that the outside would not be possible without the stability of the inside.
The eight primary colors were the basis of this conceptual photography work. After Sebastian had chosen different foods in the color of the eight primary colours, he wanted to make little art pieces out of them. And so he created this series of whimsical fruity still-life pictures. A matching low-key image was created for each high-key image. For reasons of format, we are only able to show part of the series here. The series actually contains 8 high-key and 8 low-key images, whereby Sebastian used the 8 primary colors as a guide.
We think it is delicious photography!
