What draws you to the arts?

“I always feel drawn to light, shadows and color. Whether I am looking through a printed magazine, illustrations, paintings, watching a movie or simply admiring a building I walk by. I am entertained by the simple things that nature and life have to offer.”

What do you like best about this photo project?

“The exciting light and shadows sometimes appearing to dance in the breeze create a challenge to capture with my mobile phone when it is extremely sunny out. Though upon editing the images, I am pleasantly surprised with the outcome.”

This series showcases the beauty and complexity of tropical leaves, captured through the lens of a mobile phone. By focusing on the interplay of light, shadows, lines, and patterns, these images offer a unique perspective on the natural world.

With minimal editing, these photographs aim to present the leaves in their most authentic form, while also abstracting the whole in favour of details. The vibrant colors, intricate textures, and dynamic shapes of tropical leaves are showcased in a way that highlights their natural beauty.

The abstraction allows viewers to focus on the intricate beauty of the leaves, divorced from their natural context. It allows us to appreciate the leaves as individual works of art, rather than simply as parts of a larger ecosystem.
