BLACK ‘N BLUE

ANNE IRIS CAILLETTE

// Anne Iris Caillette is a visual artist and photographer based in Paris, France. She gets her energy from art and creativity. She seeks poetry in photography, where composition and frame are equally significant. She founded a new artistic movement that she called Neo-Pop-Romantism, and her series Black ‘N Blue is part of this genre.

Anne Iris has been an artist since she was two years old, when she would bring her colour pencils to the swimming pool. She then spent much time in drawing and painting classrooms before going on to study both visual arts and history of art. Discussing colour, painting, ideas, and creativity fills her with much joy and passion.

Anne Iris thrives on creating. She enjoys capturing the essence of everyday photographs, the unusual, the light, depths, and intimacy of the moment, whether in colour or black & white. She likens painting to a gluttony of the senses. Choosing her tools, laying the paint, spreading it, hearing the scraping of the palette knife on the canvas, stroking it with every bristle of the brush, choosing the colour, mixing it, discovering newly created shades, immersing her hands in it, being mindful of the finest details of the composition.

Her favourite quote:

“Blue enhances life!”

Anne Iris Caillette

What draws you to the arts?

Looking to capture what motivates me artistically, I created an artistic movement – Neo-Pop-Romantism. I defend parallels with my vision of life; being within one’s emotions with humour and lightness! Therefore, I regularly organise Neo-Pop-Romantic festivals for both the public and artists who join this movement with joy and commitment; commitment to denounce the excesses of our society and a commitment to stay true to oneself—being anchored. I often go to museums and exhibitions, in Paris and when I travel.

What do you like best about this project?

Blue is an inspiring color for me. One finds in it a wide palette of shades from a more green blue to a blue that is almost purple, and let’s not forget turquoise, cobalt blue, indigo and Klein bleu! This series is part of the neo-pop-romantism movement.

In the Black ‘n’ blue series, Anne Iris deliberately incorporates blue hues into the plant matter to captivate viewers’ attention and emphasize the significance of this valuable resource. The subjects featured in this series primarily consist of urban scenes, encompassing not only the artist’s hometown of Paris but also locations she has visited during her travels. Throughout the series, the botanical element takes center stage, drawing focus. Initially, Anne Iris opted to merge painting and photography by “repainting” the plants in blue onto black and white photographs, which were then edited on watercolor paper. However, to achieve the desired outcome, she ultimately turned to a digital approach, meticulously coloring each pixel in blue.

The blue gives an uncomfortable, almost alien feel to these images which I really like, particularly the ferns.

This work is just gorgeous.

the hypnotic work of the blues is mind-blowing, so amazing.
