HONOURING NATURE

ROBYN BARRON

//Robyn is an artist based in Alstonville in Northern NSW, a small country town near Byron Bay, Australia. She worked for many years as a stylist and producer for her husband´s advertising photography studio. She has an artistic eye for beauty, and we are pleased to share her series “Honouring nature.”

Robyn´s photographic goal is to start shooting film on her husband´s old Hasselblad. For now, she photographs with her mobile phone, with astonishing results.

“The earth is art, the photographer is only a witness.”

What draws you to the arts?

“I enjoy the total expansion of your mindset at seeing artists different viewpoints of the world.”

What do you like best about this photographic project?

“The juxtaposition of hard and soft new and old dark and light. I also really dig the colours I have created.”

This is a series called “Honouring Nature”. “During the catastrophic floods of 2020 in our area there was a lot of debris on the beach – I found this particularly interesting piece of driftwood and felt compelled to honour its life,” Robyn says. She draped or arranged small pieces she found in her Australian garden around the timber and took still-life photos of it in her home studio with natural light on her iPhoneXS.

Robyn uses different apps for post-processing, including Hipstamatic, Mextures, Formulas and icolorama, to achieve her signature dark and dreamlike look.
