BEHROOZ ROOSTA
// For Iranian photographer Behrooz Roosta, photography is as much about observing the world as it is about capturing it. With more than fourteen years of professional experience, his work spans commercial advertising, hotel photography, hospitaity and tourism, travel destinations, landscape, sports, luxury media and documentary imagery. Alongside his photography, he works as a videographer and visual content creator, bringing a broad understanding of visual storytelling to his projects. With fall upon us in the Western hemisphere, we share some of his images from a series that highlights the beauty of autumn colours.
His professional background is complemented by an MBA, reflecting a career that combines creative practice with commercial expertise. Behrooz has an interest in expanding his professional career internationaly, as a photographer, videographer, and visual content creator. Yet beyond the demands of professional photography, Behrooz is particularly interested in the emotional connection an image can establish with its audience. Whether through photography, music, theatre or other artistic expressions, he values art’s ability to interrupt the noise of everyday life and encourage a moment of reflection.
For him, the most meaningful images are not necessarily those that depict extraordinary events, but those that reveal something worth noticing in otherwise familiar surroundings. This philosophy finds a natural expression in his series Autumn Serenity, photographed in Tehran, where the changing season transforms urban parks and wooded landscapes into places of remarkable warmth and tranquillity.
“The camera is an instrument that teaches people how to see without a camera.”

What draws you to the arts?
What draws me to art in all its forms—whether viewing a theatrical performance, visiting a museum, listening to acoustic melodies, or capturing visual compositions—is its profound ability to evoke genuine human emotion and silence the noise of the everyday world. Engaging with art makes me feel grounded, mindful, and deeply connected to the shared human experience. It offers a universal language that transcends words, allowing us to pause, reflect, and perceive the subtle beauty and harmony in life.
What do you like best about this project?
What I like best about ‘Autumn’s Serenity’ is its calm, comforting atmosphere and authentic visual narrative. It invites the viewer to pause, breathe, and experience a peaceful sense of connection with nature amidst the flow of daily life. Preserving the natural colors and golden light of the season without artificial enhancements creates a timeless, tranquil harmony that truly invites me to pause, observe the quiet poetry in everyday nature, and translate that serene harmony into a visual experience for others.

Autumn is perhaps one of photography’s most familiar subjects. The golden foliage, fallen leaves and low afternoon sunlight have inspired countless images, yet their appeal remains remarkably enduring. In Autumn’s Serenity, Behrooz embraces these familiar elements, concentrating on the subtle interplay of colour, light and atmosphere rather than seeking dramatic or unusual perspectives.
The photographs move between broader woodland scenes and intimate observations of autumn’s smaller details. Tree-lined paths disappear into the distance beneath canopies of amber and gold, while sunlight filters through branches, illuminating the forest floor in warm, shifting patterns. There is a gentle rhythm to these compositions, created by the repetition of tree trunks, the curves of pathways and the contrast between illuminated foliage and darker areas of woodland.
Light is particularly important throughout the series. In one photograph, the low sun breaks through the trees, its rays becoming visible in the slightly misty atmosphere. The woodland appears almost luminous, with the warm light lending depth to the layers of trees and fallen leaves. Elsewhere, the sunlight is softer and more diffuse, creating a quieter atmosphere in which colour and texture become the dominant elements.
Rather than presenting nature as something entirely separate from human experience, the series explores the spaces where the two coexist. Parks offer a temporary retreat from the intensity of the city, places where the changing seasons can still be experienced at a slower pace. The occasional human figure provides a sense of scale and everyday life, while the surrounding landscape remains the principal subject.
Some of the most engaging photographs, however, turn away from the wider scenery to concentrate on individual leaves. A golden maple leaf lies against a dark, textured surface, its delicate veins and irregular edges clearly visible. In another image, fallen leaves catch the warm sunlight, their curled forms casting small shadows across the ground.
These close observations provide an effective counterpoint to the expansive woodland scenes. Where the larger compositions invite the eye to wander through the landscape, the detail photographs encourage a more concentrated form of looking. They reveal how the character of autumn can be expressed through a single leaf just as convincingly as through an entire forest.
Colour is one of the defining elements of Autumn’s Serenity. The photographs are characterised by a particularly rich, saturated palette of glowing amber, golden yellow, rust and deep brown. At times, the intensity of these colours goes beyond naturalistic representation, lending the landscapes an almost painterly quality. Combined with the warm, directional sunlight, this heightened colour treatment creates an atmosphere of exceptional warmth and visual richness. The images thus convey an artistic, idealised impression of autumn, celebrating its beauty through colour as much as through composition and light.
The appeal of the collection lies in its simplicity. Behrooz concentrates on what makes the season so compelling in the first place: its extraordinary light, its changing colours and its ability to transform ordinary surroundings into places of quiet beauty.
His approach also reflects a broader understanding of photography as an exercise in attention. The camera becomes a means of noticing the small details and atmospheric changes that are easily overlooked in the routines of daily life. In this sense, the photographs invite viewers to experience the same attentive observation that shaped their creation.
Autumn Serenity offers a vibrant portrait of Tehran’s autumn landscapes, revealing a quieter side of a city more often associated with its bustling streets and urban energy. Iran frequently appears in international headlines for far less joyful reasons. Against this backdrop, there is something particularly refreshing about Behrooz’s photographs. They offer a welcome reminder that beyond the headlines lies a country of remarkable natural beauty, where people enjoy the same simple pleasures of changing seasons, peaceful walks and golden afternoon light as anywhere else in the world.
