ARTSCAPES

EVDOXIA FASOULA

// For over twenty years, Evdoxia has been involved in imaging as a forensic photographer (forensic graphologist), having studied at the University of Urbino in Italy. Seeking a creative outlet, she has systematically pursued artistic photography over the past five years. In her series “Artscapes,” she captures the sensory experience of art, focusing on the interaction between visitors and artworks.

Evdoxia has attended photography courses at the Athenian photography groups and schools “Diadromes” and iFocus, and has participated in group photography exhibitions in Greece and abroad. Her photos have been selected and reposted by international photography digital magazines and important hubs.

She has authored a book on scientific photo-optical multimedia, as well as the bilingual photographic-graphological album “Urban Graphemes,” a journey through graffiti & street art (Greek/English). She is also a member and curator of the international Instagram-based photography group @kalopsia_collective, a member of the Italian photographic association Alpido @associazionealpido, a member of the Italian hub @effe4.0, and an official member of the Greek photographic platform @moments_collective_.

“The aim of art is to represent not the outward appearance of things, but their inward significance.”

often attributed to Aristotle

What draws you to the arts?

What the title of the project itself suggests. That art places are places of escapism, places of refuge, where wonderful subterranean, mysterious and beneficial relationships can develop between visitors, art works and art places.

What do you like best about this series?

The fact that I discovered a way to combine my love for street photography, art places and the mystery of their healing power.

Evdoxia’s “Artscapes” project, initiated shortly after the COVID-19 pandemic, is an ongoing exploration of the human interaction with art. Through her lens, she captures the sensory experience of visiting art spaces, focusing on the interplay between visitors, artworks, and the environment.

By employing techniques such as candid shots, reflections, and silhouettes, sometimes using unusual perspectives, she creates a visual topography that emphasizes the emotional and psychological impact of art. Evdoxia’s preference for underexposure adds a layer of mystery and intrigue to her images, while her use of film simulation effects and subtle color manipulation enhances the overall aesthetic.

I love your distinctive style Evidoxia. I have experimented with taking images of viewers at galleries myself but with little success. These are beautiful.
