EVA BERLER
// Based in Athens, Greece, Eva has been actively pursuing creative art photography since 2019. Through her lens, ordinary subjects are transformed into “little mundane worlds,” revealing hidden beauty, magic, and poetry. Eva’s “Immersion” series captures the enchanting ancient limestone quarry of Latomia del Paradiso in Siracusa, Sicily.
With a passion for nature, urban, macro, abstract, and fine art photography, Eva´s work reflects a deep connection with nature and a journey of self-discovery. Her photography emphasizes visual artistry, emotional appeal, and simplicity, often drawing inspiration from nature’s unrestricted creativity.
Eva´s first photobook, “Little Miracles,” was published in December 2022, and her first solo exhibition was held in May 2023. She has received multiple accolades, including first place in the Wildlife & Nature category of the 2024 Sony World Photography Awards Professional competition, as well as awards from reFocus, International Visionography, Exposure One, and 1839. Her work has been featured in group exhibitions in Greece and abroad, leaving a lasting impression on viewers and the photography world.
“I seek the beauty, magic and poetry in the ordinary, creating “my little mundane world”. For me what is hidden in the details is beautiful, intriguing and precious and I feel compelled to share it with others through my photos. Visual artistry, emotional appeal and simplicity are also important in my photography. I find that nature allows me to use my imagination and creativity in a more playful and unrestricted way. Photography is like an inner dialogue and discovery process, that starts through my subjects. “
“Art is not what you see, but what you make others see.”
Edgar Degas
What draws you to the arts?
What mostly draws me to the arts is the possibility of creating new sensory gateways for people. Providing alternative ways to see the world through art helps us discover new things and new opportunities about ourselves and everything that surrounds us. Arts have the magical effect of bringing to the surface emotions that have been suppressed or muted in our daily lives, either consciously or unconsciously.
What do you like best about this project?
What fascinated me the most is the way the creators of the exhibition have magnificently combined the impressive works of Mitoraj with such an iconic and historical place and created a unique viewing experience that compounds the value and beauty of both the artworks and the archaeological area that hosts them. It really felt like the sculptures belong in that place, as if they were intended to always be there. Excellent work coordinated by Luca Pizzi of Atelier Mitoraj, in collaboration with Mediatica and Tate.
Eva created her photo essay “Immersion” during a recent trip to Sicily at a famous archaeological site. Latomia del Paradiso is part of the Neapolis Archaeological Park of Siracusa. This ancient limestone quarry comprises an impressive complex of caves surrounded by the most enchanting nature.
At the time of Eva’s visit, the Archaeological site was hosting an open-air exhibition of large-scale sculptures from Polish artist Igor Mitoraj, which blended magnificently into the ancient site. The exhibition was called “Lo Sguardo – Humanitas – Physis”.
“The sculptures will stay on site until 31 October 2025 and I highly recommend a visit there. It is truly an immersive experience blending the fascinating spaces and natural environment of the Neapolis Archaeological site with Mitoraj’s amazing and breathtaking work,” Eva says.
To ensure the artworks blend almost seamlessly into their temporary environment, Eva used a zoom lens to compress the various layers together as much as possible. Her focus on details also emphasises the structures of the stone, showing the true beauty of both sculptures and the rocks surrounding them.
